There's my piece on page 55! Surfboards (left), mixed media on board
Bitchin' cover
I wish I could read Japanese!
I love this piece by Malibu surfer and artist Ned Evans

When I was asked to be featured in the Art for Surfers issue of Japan's Blue magazine, I was completely thrilled.  When the magazine arrived in the mail last week, I jumped for joy.  It is a gorgeous issue and I am honored to be included with so many great artists.   Arigatou Blue magazine!

Pillar Point Birthday

The morning of my November birthday was spent on the coast.  I had the best bagel of my life at the hardware store in El Granada.  I highly recommend the "Low Card" - a toasted bagel with cream cheese, avocado, bacon and hot sauce.  Then we went to Pillar Point, which is where you can see Mavericks when it breaks.  I had a happy celebration with loved ones at my mom's house - each year I make the same request for pizza and my mom's cupcakes.  And to have a birthday card with little scribbles on it from Duke, well.  I sure do love being alive.

Guerilla Art Project

What is guerilla art?
Guerilla art, also known as "street art", is leaving art in public spaces for others to find and enjoy.

Intro:
For the past two months, I have been a mentor to two 8th grade students, Heydi Orozco and Robert Jimenez from Spark, a national non-profit whose mission is to provide life-changing apprenticeships to youth in underserved communities.  Robert and Heydi were assigned to me because they want to be artists.  We have been working on a guerrilla art project and each week we meet at my studio to discuss our inspirations, ideas, and make art.  Heydi and Robert are amazing, smart and talented kids who love learning and love making art.  Heydi is interested in Japanese culture, especially anime, manga and Japanese rock music.  Robert wants to paint with oils and learn to do landscapes.

Heydi and Robert have produced individual monotypes with the sole purpose of displaying and distributing their work for free in public spaces within our community. Our goals are 1) We want art to be accessible for everyone to enjoy and 2) that when you create something that you love and send it out into the world, good will come from it.

The "Free Art" sticker on the front of each piece means we want you to own it, display it, or share it. Yes you can take it home and frame it! We hope you will be inspired in some way.

What you can do:
If you were lucky enough to discover Robert or Heydi's work in Redwood City or Palo Alto, please leave a comment telling us about it!

If you have time, please send us a photo showing where your new artwork rests and I will repost it here.  Please send your photo to pineappleluv at gmail dot com.  When Robert and Heydi talk to me about what is most fulfilling about this project, they each say that they're excited about who may find their artwork.

So thank you from the bottom of my heart for participating!

My Little Cowboy, Duke

My little cowboy is almost 22 months.  He is the light of our lives.  I say to Duke what my beloved Grandma Noni used to say to me often, with joy in her voice as she squeezed me tight, "How come I love you so much"!?!

Art headed to Maine

I made this monotype for the River Louten Benefit Gala this Friday night in Portland, Maine.  I'm really glad that curator Tyler McGinley asked me to donate art.  Donating art gives me one of the best feelings in life because it makes me feel like a useful human being.  I hope this piece warms someone up in Maine and that it helps beautiful River.

Jay Watson, Photographer, Moonwalker

Helloooo Canada! Have you already seen the Sears holiday commercial on TV? Did you notice the guy moonwalking at the 20 second mark? That just happens to be world famous photographer, Jay Watson. Here's the story -

I shot a video of my husband moonwalking while we were visiting Lake Tahoe earlier this year.  I put it on Vimeo and about a month ago, I got an email asking if Sears Canada could use the clip for their new holiday commercial.

I was pretty sure they wanted to use it because Jay was shoveling snow and we all know that Sears sells shovels and that it snows a ton in Canada.  No.  "Our team searched hundreds of hours of home movies and personal videos to find moments with true spontaneity, fun, and a joyful spirit".

You may be wondering, what does Jay have to say about his TV debut?  "I never thought that practicing the moonwalk in middle school would lead to this moment".

Jay + Jamie Watson Art Show

We are prepping for the show this Saturday and getting very excited about it!  I will take photos at the show and post them next week.

When Duke was very small, I would feed him and daydream about what I wanted for my future, for me - as well as for Duke's sake so he could see that his Mom is happy and fulfilled.  I imagined myself spending time doing what I love.  This show is a daydream come true.  And just the beginning!

Sending Love to you all.

Good Morning in our Backyard

Here is a glimpse of a recent morning. Duke loves it when Jay gives him a ride on the skateboard. We have 4 chickens and this one is Carmen, a Barred Rock. Chicken language is not always easy to decipher but in this video, she is asking for a raisin. Here's to many good mornings for you!

The Skateboard Mag April Issue

My husband's portraits of pro skaters are in the April 2012 issue of The Skateboard Mag. Yeah! Our son Duke constantly wants to wear Jay's Skateboard Mag hat. Duke's first word by the way, besides Mama and Dada is HAT. So check out more of these beautiful portrait's on Jay's blog and pick up a copy at the newsstand!

Featured on Quality Peoples Spring Summer Collection

Those are my toes and my surfboard on a beautiful Quality Peoples t-shirt
modeled by Ana Paula Pena Mejia

That's Ed Fladung on the right, co-creator of Quality Peoples, wearing the Toes shirt. He's with Kurt Narmore of Hand Me Ups, also wearing a Quality Peoples T.

One of my photos is featured on a Quality Peoples t-shirt, for their Spring Summer 2012 collection. I am beyond stoked. I am wearing one right now. The softness and quality is sublime. My husband wears one as well. Find out what cool stores are stocking this collection.

In the words of the QP creators:

Quality Peoples takes cues from contemporary art, street culture, Mexican folklore, Hawaiian surf history, and the places that shape our lives. Quality Peoples started in 2010 as an art collaboration between two friends in foreign lands.

We support PEACE, a non-profit organization that supports rural communities in Nayarit, Mexico. For every t-shirt you purchase, we fund one afternoon of after-school programs for a child.
