When doves fly
I went to my studio last Sunday, intending to work. And do you know what I did? Nothing. I sat there and read a long article about Grace Kelly. I wasn't too hard on myself, though. Sometimes it is good to just be in my space.
Recently Jay took some photos of recent work that I showed in December. I'll post a couple every now and then. The doves prints are small, probably about 5x9. I was thinking about flags and different countries. I used gold ink, which is not as easy to use as other colors as it has a dry and somewhat flaky texture to it.
There was one more dove, which I left in New York. I don't know if anyone found it, but it's time to leave a new piece in San Francisco.

Cars in my neighborhood
I've been wanting a new project, and I have the idea for a big one that makes me feel so much joy and excitement that I can't wait to get started. However, it involves a road trip and I'm not sure exactly when I will go. I will share it with you once I've begun.
In the meanwhile, I've been noticing cars more than usual. I really like cars, I always have. Ever since I could drive at Autopia at Disneyland, I was hooked. It felt so real, going on those roads with curves and trees all around and speed limit signs, and going under a big overpass (monorail, but still). I remember thinking to myself, 'don't move the steering wheel back and forth too much, adults don't do that'. And I loved watching my dad drive, thinking how cool he looked when he drove with his knee. I couldn't wait to try it myself.
So, I've decided to look around my neighborhood to see what kind of gems I can find, then post them. Some may be obvious in their charm or beauty, others not as much. Maybe I'll just see an orange truck and say, "I like you".
At the end of the project, I will post a photo of every car I've ever owned. Already, I'm noticing that this is going to be fun. I have to really look and go down streets I've never been before. I will try to do a lot of this while walking.

My favorite dream
Recently I was remembering a dream I had about four years ago. It is definitely my favorite dream I've ever had.
I was in Hawaii and I was swimming in the ocean. I saw two dolphins, and the next thing I know, I have my arms around them. I'm in the middle, and each dolphin is on either side of me, like they're my good buddies. I asked a tourist on the beach to take a picture! So there we were, me and the two dolphins, smiling real big, getting our picture taken.
Dolphins always look like they're smiling don't they?
So that's all there was to it. Isn't that funny? (I am not even "really into" dolphins). But somehow, the feeling it left me with and the happiness, make that my very favorite dream of all time.
Have a great weekend everyone. If you have a favorite dream, I'd love to hear about it!

An afternoon with Mom
Today, Mom and I found a great way to spend a holiday. We started with pedicures, followed by a trip to Sephora, where we each got a Shu Uemura eyelash curler and Smith's Rosebud Salve. Lastly, we split a turkey pastrami Reuben from Max's. When it was time for Mom to drop me off and go on her way, we both felt delighted from our day.

Puppy Bowl - friends forever
I'd been down and out with the flu and just when I'd had enough, a miracle came my way through a visit by my stepbrother, Patrick. Patrick had dropped by to bring me some soup that my Mom made and he stayed to chat for a while.
As he was about to go back home to watch the Superbowl, he asked if I'd ever seen "Puppy Bowl". Puppy Bowl!? Patrick explained that during the Superbowl, the Animal Planet channel has it's own version with a bunch of furry puppies playing on a field. The thought was too much to bear. My brain was about to explode.
I turned on Animal Planet and behold, the most wonderful use of television I could have ever imagined. I texted my friends with a simple "turn on animal planet" just hoping someone would watch it and love it as much as me! I got no replies. Later that afternoon, I got a phone call from my Mom. "Patrick and Tim said to tell you that they don't know what they like better, the Superbowl or Puppy Bowl". That made my day.
