One of my dreams has come true

As an adult, I've always wanted a dog. After Jay and I were together, I thought that dream would never be able to come true because he has allergies to cats, horses and most dogs. The dogs that are supposed to be really hypo-allergenic are poodles or they look like poodles and there's no way Jay would be caught dead with an animal that looked like that. Not too long ago we started hearing about a couple of people with allergies that had whippets and their allergies did not bother them. Jay saw a photo of one and thought it looked cool. That was all I needed to hear.

I found a 2-yr old dog whose owner wanted to place him in a home because he didn't get along with her standard poodle (the irony). I started renting The Dog Whisperer on Netflix, and we really liked that and felt kind of prepared (to be strong and stable pack leaders, give regular exercise, and affection when it's earned).

3 weeks later, we drove to Santa Rosa to meet Sterling (whom we may rename Devo), and it seemed right to us to bring him home. 2 and 1/2 days later, we are all getting over our shock and having a good time. We want to make sure we do treat him like a dog, and not a baby or human, per Cesar Milan.

He is awfully cute and the best part is that Jay loves him and has had no problems with his allergies. When I saw Jay coming home with him this evening from a walk, I felt great.

I am so happy for you guys! I can't wait to meet your little guy.

Devo = Whippet (Whip It, get it?) Is that on purpose?

Wooo-e-woo! Rock on with the new pup! Ed wants to know who the alpha dog is in the pack or is there dual alpha-ship (I think he's been watching the dog whisperer way too much!)

Glad the allergies haven't been an issue. Congrats on the pup!
